I've been out and about doing acoustic shows for over 10 years.  I like the intimacy of being able to interact with the audience.  As the hour gets later audience participation and spontaneous requests are what you'll get.  It's all about fun, whether it's singing along or just relaxing

EVERY STUDENT IS DIFFERENT  in their natural abilities and different goals.  The first thing I try to determine is how far the student would like to go and what their goals are.  The challenge with all students is to keep them engaged and excited about the process.  When it comes down to it, every guitarist teaches themselves.  The role of the teacher is to guide and inspire.

SETTING GOALS: By setting goals and clearly following a path to achieve them I empower the student to see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and with persistence, practice, and inspiration they can go as far as they wish to.  Whether it's learning a song they thought impossible or mastering a technique, together we work as a team discovering the joy of making music and understanding how it's made.

READING MUSIC: It is an absolute MYTH that one must read music to be a musician. Many of the best do not read a note. I don't force note reading on anyone; students will read music if it fits their personal goals. What IS important is that all students gain some mastery over reading rhythms, which are essential to following strumming or picking instructions on the written page.

FUN:  A productive lesson should be challenging, but that challenge should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience that helps the student achieve their goals.  I always try to incorporate an element of fun into each lesson, because without fun, what’s the point?
